The Financing of the AI Boom Is Breaking
Goldman Sachs counted $88 billion in AI-related debt issued in 2026. Compare that to $20 billion in all of 2025. The problem: investors are starting to ask where the revenue comes from. NVIDIA wants to turn its GPUs into collateral for $500 billion in infrastructure. Wall Street is skeptical. Banks think chips age in 3–4 years; NVIDIA claims 10. If the collateral loses value before the loan matures, lenders lose. The deeper issue: we're building massive infrastructure on the bet that AI will generate returns large enough to justify the cost. Nobody actually knows if that's true yet. We're financing a future we haven't proven works.
